TELLING A JOKE WHEN YOU'RE NOT QUITE FOUR YEARS OLD

Last Friday night, possibly inspired by his big brother's barrage of jokes, Tyler told a joke of his own.

Here is Tyler's joke:

BROTHER MOCKING BROTHER

This morning Silas shared a story with me.

Last December his mom and dad were out of the house and he, being the oldest child, was left in charge of his siblings.  After his parents left the house one of his siblings threw a bit of a tantrum.

Tyler shouted (and this is a direct quote), "Hold me, Mommy!  Hold me!  Plee-hee-heez!  Ma... (cough) Mom!  Mommy!  Hold me!"

Well, Silas happened to have a cell phone available when this episode occurred and he captured the audio of the event.  Lately, he has had in his mind to lip sync Tyler's voice and re-enact the tantrum in a mocking, loving kind of a way in the form of a short video.

The mocker and the mocked.

The video is indeed short.  It runs only 14 seconds.  Here it is:

THE OTHER PERSON'S AUGUST BIRTHDAY

Naomi is not the only one in her family who was born in August.  Tim, her dad, also has a birthday in August.  In fact, Naomi was born on Tim's birthday.

But Tim never gets a fun birthday party in a park like Naomi does.

I tried to correct this unfairness this morning by giving Tim a birthday gift before we left for Naomi's party.

Tim opens his gift.

A selfie stick and a Starbucks card.

Selfie stick instructions.

Since I was the one to give Tim his selfie stick, Tim thought it was only fitting
that I should be the first one to be in his first batch of selfies.

The first batch of selfies.

NAOMI'S BIRTHDAY PARTY WEEKEND (Part 2)

Naomi's birthday party was today.

The day began with breakfast.
Breakfast included horsing around.

After breakfast, we headed for the park to set up for the party.

Cousins.

Weathersbys.

Naomi's friend, Jade, was the first guest to arrive at the party.

Hunter, Devon and Silas on the slides.

The party guests, including one party picture crasher (flashing the peace sign) who nobody knew and who disappeared after this photo was taken.

The food line.

Devon and Hunter dine on the playground bridge.

Silas, David, Abigail and Amarisa dine on the lawn.

Jade, Naomi and Elizabeth dine on chairs.

Hunter climbs the playground structure while Devon rests on the bridge.

Tyler snuggles.

Per Naomi's request, candy replaced ice cream and cake.

Naomi opens gifts.

The party was a great success!

NAOMI'S BIRTHDAY PARTY WEEKEND (Part 1)

Tomorrow Naomi is having a party to celebrate her eighth birthday.

This morning I left home early, picked up Hunter at his house and took him with me for the occasion.

After clocking 628.3 miles on the trip odometer, which included a full hour to travel only ten miles through Portland rush hour traffic, we arrived at Naomi's house in time for pizza.  Then we hung out and we went to bed.

Tomorrow is a party day and will require some rest.

Tim, Tyler, Devon, me, Naomi, Hunter, Bethany and Silas practice gluttony together at Abbey's Pizza in Woodburn.

Bethany took a selfie of her with Hunter and posted it on Facebook.

The selfie should have looked like this.

When a granddaughter assumes that her grandfather has brought her a birthday gift, and then asks that grandfather if she can carry that gift from the car to the house before the grandfather has given any indication that he has even brought a gift, then a sit-down educational chat with the mother is highly probable.

The youngest family member is learning how to ride a bicycle.

Tree climbers.

Bethany tends the garden while Silas levitates upside down.

Two cage fighters.

A third fighter enters the cage.

Three cage fighters.

Two nostrils.
