ROMANTIC LAUNDROMAT DATE

Last Tuesday our washer died.  It leaked all over the floor.  I had considered CPR, but I already did CPR on our dryer a couple months ago and I just wasn't in the mood to try my limited handyman skills this time in trying to resuscitate this appliance.

So on Wednesday I took advantage of a Black Friday sale at The Home Depot and purchased a new washer.  The Black Friday sale on Wednesday seemed a bit early this year and the delivery of the washer was about ten days out.  We had a pile of dirty laundry and no washer.

The washer apparently sprung a leak in the drum and soaked the floor.  Towels absorbed the leakage.  The washer leaves next weekend.

We also had a Friday night and Saturday morning marriage seminar we had signed up for at our church this weekend.  The seminar was outstanding and I was personally challenged to make some improvements as a husband.

When we left the seminar, Debra and I went to the laundromat together, something we had never done before, and we plunked a bunch of quarters into a bunch of machines.  I had considered unscrewing some of the lights in the laundromat to make the atmosphere a bit more romantic, but it was romantic enough already.

After a delightful time of folding clothes together, we went out to lunch and then went home.

Overall, we had a very enjoyable two days together.

Debra and I spent three hours last night and three hours this morning gathering ideas about
how to improve our marriage.

After the marriage seminar, we spent some quality time together at the laundromat.  I suppose I could have made the event a little more romantic by carrying the laundry basket myself, but I can't take pictures
and carry a basket at the same time.

Our local laundromat is located in downtown Talent, right across the street from
the store where we buy ice cream on sale.

Debra positions herself to place eight quarters into one washer.

Savoring the moment together.

Debra, who is not a cell phone addict, kills time with her phone.

I kill time with a book.

After completing the folding of underwear in front of a small audience at the laundromat, we complete our date with lunch at a restaurant we had never tried before, conveniently located on the same block as the laundromat.

JOURNEY THROUGH RADIATION THERAPY

When Dave and Jenni Sprunger posted their emotional announcement online, I saw it because it had been shared by a Facebook friend who knew about it because another Facebook friend had shared it.  I, in turn, also shared it.  So the word got out quickly and reached many.

I didn’t really know Dave when I heard his special message.  All I knew was what I had observed.  Dave was an amazing talent who sang, played piano and wrote original music.  I saw him lead worship at Mountain Christian Fellowship but we never became acquainted.  I knew his son, Nate, because we served together as ushers at the church.  I had met his wife, Jenni, when she taught in the children’s church where Debra and I also served.

Dave wears a custom-made mask used for immobilization during radiation therapy treatments.

So, when Dave showed up at my workplace, I asked him and Jenni if I could have their permission to bless them and their family by making a video of Dave’s journey through radiation therapy.  I had never before made such an offer to a patient.  But I somehow felt compelled to ask in this case.  Dave and Jenni were appreciative of my offer and they said ‘Yes”.

This is the cover photo used for Dave's CD, Sitting at the Feet of Jesus.  One of Dave's original songs,
Our Eyes Look to You, is featured in the video below.

What you will see in this video is Dave’s experience on a treatment table.  What you will hear is Dave’s voice and his piano playing as he sings one of his original compositions.

TWO BIRTHDAYS ON NOVEMBER 9th

Tonight Debra and I took our daughter, Ashley, and our granddaughter, Baylee, to The Randall Theatre to celebrate both of their birthdays.  They share the same birthday.  November 9th.

The Randall Theatre is a small community theater in Medford with unpaid, local talent taking the stage and providing entertainment.  We've been to this theatre a few times but tonight the acting was especially well done and our evening was well spent.

After parking our car across the street from the theatre, we take a quadruple selfie before heading to the show.

The lighting made the marquee mostly impossible to read in this photo, but it reads:
The Randall Theatre Company Presents "The Secret Garden".
