BIRTHDAY ZIPPER

She knew I was going to take her on a surprise trip on her birthday today, but she had no idea where I was taking her.

Not a clue.

When we pulled into the parking lot of the Laurel Hill Golf Course and she saw the Rogue Valley Zip Line sign nailed to a tree, she immediately became both excited and nervous.  She always wanted to do a zip line tour but she did not know that I knew that she always wanted to do a zip line tour.  But I knew.  And we did it.

She was thrilled and this birthday ended up being a truly happy one!

We pulled into a parking lot where Debra noticed a sign nailed to a tree.

Our tour group of ten waited for the shuttle van to arrive.

The van arrived.

Debra and I take our seat in the van and head up a steep hill.

We arrive at our destination where the tour of five separate zip lines begins.

Harnessed, helmeted and ready to zip.

Debra rides the first of five zip lines.  By the way, our tour guides, Katie and Kyle, were outstanding and very funny, making the whole experience quite memorable.

Kyle prepares Debra for the second zip line.

And there she goes!

Katie prepares Debra for the third zip line.

And there she goes!

Having already finished the third zip line, Debra watches another member of our group zip down the line.  As we progressed through the five zip lines, each line became longer and faster.  And more fun, too!

Debra zips down the fourth line...

...and ends with Katie applying the brakes.

The fifth and final zip line is a quarter of a mile long, takes about one minute to ride, and reaches speeds near 60 miles per hour.

Debra completes the fifth zip line.

I secretly told Kyle that today was Debra's birthday.  He said he was glad I told him because he had a surprise.  Debra was the last person in our group to finish the fifth line and when she neared the end, Kyle kept her suspended in air while the entire group sang "Happy Birthday to You".

Rogue Valley Zip Line Adventures is a great way to spend a birthday!

FROZEN BIRTHDAY

Makiah is one of three grandchilden who turns 8 this year, joining Neo who already turned 8 earlier this year and Naomi who will turn 8 next month.

We celebrated Makiah's birthday today with a party.  She wanted a theme from the movie, Frozen, so that's what she got.

Her birthday cake had a Frozen theme.

The community clubhouse, where we had the party, was decorated accordingly.

Debra created a vegetable tray using the Frozen character, Olaf.

Alexia provided about 10 seconds of entertainment before she took off to do something else.

Makiah dressed as Princess Anna.

The party included lunch....

...gift giving and gift opening...

...lighting and blowing out a candle...

...cutting and serving birthday cake...

...eating ice cream and cake...

...and swimming.

Eventually it was time for everybody to get out of the pool and go home.
